Research finds that less than 20% of those who intentionally try to lose weight are able to lose 5% of their body weight and maintain this for 5 years.  In the face of the obesity epidemic and given the results outlined above a fundamentally different approach to managing obesity is necessary.  This new approach is a  focus on the psychology of weight loss.

The research results are clear in suggesting that the focus for treatment needs to shift from a ‘willpower driven’ focus on weight loss to a psychologically sophisticated focus on long-term lifestyle change.

We provide a psychologically focused treatment with a longer-term follow-up maintenance phase to treat obesity. In particular, we focus on two problem areas: behavioral fatigue, and weight loss sabotage by self and others.

By increasing the intensity and duration of the psychological intervention during and subsequent to weight loss we significantly increase weight reduction.
